Reporting to the IT Manager, the Senior IT Engineer has broad technical skills in systems and network engineering in the areas of administration, upgrades, and advanced problem resolution. The successful candidate possesses advanced experience with complex networks and backend systems, including Windows Servers and VMware or similar virtualized Cloud platforms, such as Azure or AWS. This person is self-driven, engages well in a team environment that is mutually supportive, sharing information and has the willingness to learn new technologies and ask questions to resolve unfamiliar issues.

This role takes the lead in responsibility for administration, support, security, and tuning of systems and network infrastructure for our cloud platform and on-premise environment, including systems, software, networks, and data through advanced knowledge of systems, networking, protocols, and security. Also documents incidents, systems events, and infrastructure design. Partners with vendor support to perform installations, upgrades, and maintenance for backend hardware, software, and network. Serves as second tier support for software, hardware, networking, workstation, security, and remote access issues. May work with vendor support teams for resolutions. This role offers the opportunity to work with new technologies and have an impact on new solutions.


  • 4+ years’ experience in developing and supporting Active Directory, Domains, Windows Servers, DCs, DHCP, DNS, email systems, and TCP/IP networking in enterprise environment.2+ years’ experience with AD Group Policy Objects (GPOs).

  • 4+ years deploying, maintaining, and upgrading Windows desktops, laptops, printers, and mobile devices. Experience supporting remote and local users with hardware and software issues and requests in helpdesk scenario with SLAs.

  • 2+ years configuring, managing, and administering VMware vSphere Enterprise or similar virtualized platform, such as Azure, Xen Server/Center, AWS, or other virtualization.

  • Hands-on experience with Cloud and on-premise environments, implementing, supporting, and maintaining enterprise systems with advanced knowledge configuring and troubleshooting issues with servers, networking, security, systems, storage, remote access systems, SQL Server, managed wireless, and web servers with Windows Active Directory.

  • 3+ years deploying, supporting, and maintaining switches, Firewalls, routers, along with security and network devices. Experience with some of the following: VLANs, VPNs, routing, Trunk Ports, EtherChannel/Port Channel, LACP, ACLs, RSTP, BGP, DMZ, NAT, Policies, and other network skills.

  • 2+ years managing and supporting MS Remote Desktop Servers (Terminal Servers) or similar technology. Some experience managing and supporting SSL VPN Clients or similar remote access users.

  • 1+ years experience with MS SQL Servers (or other SQL or database technology). Experience configuring, managing, and maintaining storage systems, as well as experience with backup and replication systems.

  • Experience with Server Clusters, Load Balancing, and Fail-Over technology.

  • Experience in analyzing and reviewing network traffic to ensure proper use, access, and security of services, protocols, and ports. Experience with systems & network monitoring tools to assess and resolve issues and to enforce policies, including performance tuning.

  • Experience with SIP/VoIP based phone systems or Unified Communications and Contact Center solutions (UCaaS / CCaaS). Experience with email protocols and mail communication issues.

  • Experience managing projects, along with coordinating vendors and consultants.Ability to develop and maintain documentation for network, systems, support, and procedures.

This IT role may arrange a Hybrid Remote Work Schedule , though must be available periodically to work onsite at facility in Medford, MA (MBTA Wellington Circle area), as needed (hours flexible/negotiable). Must also be available for occasional support and projects outside normal business hours.
